Day 19

Again posting late because of a busy day.
Worked at hospital Japones today. I feel like the residents are tired and often mistake that for them not wanting me there, but if I get to talk to any of them one on one they are very friendly and happy to let me watch procedures and share their frustrations (though when they couldn't get a lumbar puncture today, not one of them asked if I wanted to give it a try, which is fine by me, but they didn't try sitting up which sometimes is magic when you can't get it laying down...it's hard to know when to speak up and when to just watch so that you don't offend anyone).
Chatted with Dr Jordan about the things that the hospital needs to improve (I feel a little like that is asking how much further when climbing mount everest), but I have faith that the money will come slowly and eventually they will get what they need, or at least the basics of what they need, like pulse ox monitors for their patients on oxygen/ventilated.
After work went to the travel agents office to try to sort out the problem that I don't have the cash to pay (I don't walk around with lots of money and have a limit to my daily withdrawal so I can't get it in time either) and she doesn't have a credit card machine because people don't use credit cards here because they are too expensive. Could you imagine always paying for everything in cash? In the US there are weeks that go by that I don't even see cash anymore because everywhere takes credit/debit. The solution is that this morning (Saturday) I am meeting her at her bank where they can take a cash advance from my credit card which I will go home immediately and pay online to avoid outrageous fees (hopefully that works or else this trip just got a lot more expensive...we will see).
In the evening I went to a dinner party with MaryBetty and her friends. It is amazing ot me how much it looked like a dinner party in the US (fancier wine glasses). I didn't understand much because they talk fast and the subject changed quickly, but when they talked to me one on one I was ok. It was awesome. I couldn't have gotten luckier with this family. They are generous, welcoming and just perfect...Karma.
