Day 12

Today after work I took myself to the Plaza. It was a beautiful overcast day so the walk was nice and I had to find postcards where are sold conveniently outside the post office which is by the plaza. It is beautiful and I love how after work people just hang out in the park in the middle (which I didn't actually take a picture of, but will need to in the future). It is surrounded by the buildings pictured. After that I wondered home seeing as much as I could and shopping a little. I realized earlier today that if I don't make an effort to get out into the city, the whole trip is going to pass by and I am never going to have seen Santa Cruz.
This morning was interesting, well at least I paid really good attention and this is why: the word ictericia (jaundice in spanish) which you might guess based on the spelling is very close to patricia, my name and it took me a second to realize what word they were saying and they weren't constantly trying to get my attention...I used to have the same problem in highschool with lectures about the Patricians (who had something to do with the plebians, all of you know my love and dept of knowledge when it comes to history) and lectures about nutrician. The words are just too close to my name and every time a teacher would say them I would jerk to attention. The good knews of this is that I realized what word they were saying much quicker, vs my first day here when the NICU fellow said something about ictericia to me and then kept trying to explain what he was talking about until finally he showed me a yellow baby and I finally got it. I guess my Spanish is getting better.
